Often introverts hear people say things like, "If she would only get out of her shell a bit." Introverts don't only fell judged by others, they often even criticize themselves for their introverted qualities or they feel unheard or unseen.
Introverts may feel as if something is wrong with them, and if they would only be more extroverted, then they would be more loved and accepted and popular. Although an introvert--depending on where they fall on the introvert/extrovert continuum--may be able to exhibit extroverted qualities, it can be quite exhausting to maintain this for very long.
Introversion is not a pathology or temperament. It is a way of being, and therefore, it is not something to cure or pull one out of. Sure, reclusiveness is undesirable, but that is not what we are talking about here. The hermetics certainly needs assistance to get out of their shell, but that is a topic for another article.
